Lee Joongi (Lee Junki) Appreciation Post

I know a lot of people watching SBS Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo had lots of swooning moments with lead actor Lee Junki every episode of the drama. Lee Junki is so awesome in playing the role of the aloof and cold 4th prince, Wang So. But then, the popular 34 year old actor had always been great in every character that he plays, whether its in movies or dramas. Yes, he is in fact 34!

I first found out about him through the drama My Girl. With his anime visual, he really was a scene stealer in that drama. I think a lot had been researching about him these past weeks so I figured I may as well post something about this awesome actor.

1. "The King and the Clown" is Lee Junki's most notable work
The King and the Clown came out in the year 2005. It was a low budget film. But with great direction, awesome performances of the lead actors and the unusual story, it managed to be one of the highest grossing films in South Korea. The movie had also won and was nominated in almost every film awarding body in the country.

Director Lee Joon-ik said Lee Junki got the role of Gong-gil because he merely saw him doing a headstand. If you just became a fan of Junki make sure to watch The King and the Clown.

2. Lee Junki and veteran actor Jung Jin young had shared a kiss in the movie
The King and the Clown BTS
Speaking of The King and the Clown. I know this is a little spoiler but I can't help myself. In the movie, Lee Junki plays a feminine street performer while veteran actor Jung Jin young plays the role of the corrupt King Yeonsan. Having developed an attraction to the charming character of Gong gil, the king cannot help but to fall. Not that we can blame him.

3. Lee Junki and actress Nam Sangmi had starred in 2 dramas already
Lee Junki and Nam Sangmi had first worked with the drama Time Between the Dog and the Wolf. It came out in the year 2007. The story revolves around Soo Hyun (Lee Junki) an NIS agent who had a terrible past and Ji Woo (Nam Sang Mi) as Soo Hyun's childhood love.
Seven years later, these two awesome actors had met again in the drama The Joseon Gunman

4. Lee Junki is a doting uncle
In his first appearance in the SBS variety show Running Man, the actor hinted his fondness of his niece. He was sorry for being eliminated early in the game show.

5. He knows how to dance, rap and sing.

Lee Junki is known to his fans as a good dancer. He always practice wholeheartedly in order to give an awesome performance in his fanmeetings. He had also released albums throughout his career. He was known to have great interactions with his fans in his every show.

6. Lee Junki has a cool and easygoing personality
I think people who had seen Moon Lovers BTS are mostly aware of Lee Junki's humbleness and coolness in the drama set. His easygoing personality was also seen in his variety guestings like in Family Outing and the recent Running Man.
If your stalking his SNS account, you could see that he has this cuteness and adorableness in him. Who would have thought that he is already in his mid 30s?

7. Lee Junki's fond of co stars Kang Haneul, Hong Jonghyun and Baekhyun
Kang Haneul revealed in his recent interview that after knowing that he was going to act in Moon Lovers, he first asked of Lee Junki's phone number and then called him to which the actor found adorable of him. That may be the reason why, Junki looks too comfortable with Haneul in Moon Lovers behind the scenes. Lee Junki also seemed to have developed close friendship with Hong Jonghyun who plays the role of the annoying 3rd prince.

The actor also developed a liking to EXO member Baekhyun who plays the role of the 10th prince. He even attended the recent EXO concert The Exo'rdium to support his co star.

8. Lee Junki is good friends with Lee Hyori, Epik High's Mithra Jin and 2ne1 Dara

On his Family Outing guesting, Lee Hyori revealed that she is good friends with Lee Junki. She even furthered revealed that she actually set Junki and BoA on a date. Both are her good friends.

Lee Junki is also good friends with Mithra Jin of Epik High. They were together during their army days. They also shared a performance together. Mithra even promoted Junki's comeback drama Arang and the Magistrate in his Twitter. Also, Junki even attended some of Epik High's concert and Mithra's wedding last October, 2015. Ooh, and Mithra also participated in Moon Lovers OST.
Last 2014, ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was the trending topic. Junki also participated in this upon the nomination of 2ne1's Dara. I don't exactly know how these two knew each other but I think they are really good friends.

9. Lee Junki likes action genre and is very comfortable doing sageuk dramas

In an interview, Junki said that he likes doing sageuk drama because he thinks that his face really shines in it. Come to think of it, upon his return in the military he only had done one modern drama which is Two Weeks. I personally think he really looks great in historical but would also love it if he try doing more modern dramas.

Junki also enjoys and is fond of action sequences. He is a fan of Jackie Chan and like his idol, he also does most of his action stunts in his dramas. Lee Junki is set to debut in his first Hollywood film which is Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

10. Iljimae is his most popular and most successful drama
2008 SBS Iljimae cemented Junki in the drama industry. It was a drama about a Robinhood like character who protects the poor and fight the corrupt government. Even in Junki's Family Outing episode, the casts cannot help but to mention his famous character Iljimae.

The drama was both succesful in terms of rating and popularity. It received most of the awards in that year's SBS drama festival.

With his indeniable talent in acting and other fields of arts and performance, Lee Junki's star will always shine in all of his projects. He is an established and a charming actor. Its going to be hard to fall out when you start to follow his works. With that, I'm wishing everyone to watch Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo for more Lee Junki's awesomeness.

5 Reasons Why You Need To Stick Watching SBS Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

If you're fond of reading those blogs that translate comments from the point of view of K-netizens you should know by now that a lot are disappointed of IU's acting as a woman who time travelled in the Goryeo dynasty. The Korean ratings of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo are still ranging in single digit number with 11 episodes already done airing.

Well, I might have some cringe reactions for IU as Hae Soo but it doesn't turn me off from watching each episodes of this drama that is based from the popular 2011 Chinese drama also titled Scarlet Heart. I wouldn't lie that I also find some supporting actors lacking in acting department but hey, don't turn your back because there are good points about this drama that might have you stick to it till the end.

Here are the 5 Reasons why you need to be watching Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo:

1. Lee Junki, Lee Joongi

A lot of people were disturbed as to why Lee Junki accepted this project earlier this year. Lee Junki is an established actor with the movie The King and the Clown as his most notable project. Well, the thing is this man rocks sageuk dramas and personally likes action genre, so its really not that surprising if his attracted to Moon Lovers' premise. Without any doubt and despite of Moon Lovers lacking at some point, Lee Junki is the very first reason why you should try watching this drama.

He is so great in portraying the coolness and emotions of the 4th prince Wang So that everytime he is delivering a line you can't help but feel attracted to his character. He definitely is Wang So by fate. I know after watching him in this, you'd probably search for his other works like I did.

2. Kang Haneul

From his experience in musicals, dramas and movies, Kang Haneul does not disappoint whether he plays a cool, nerdy or melodramatic guy. Haneul is so talented and handsome and he really portrays the character of the 8th prince Wang Wook with elegance. With his chiseled jawline and charming smile, I bet you'd fangirl over him in the earlier episodes of Moon Lovers.

3. The OST

You know a drama doesn't really feel complete without its original soundtrack that lingers to your ears. With YG Entertainment as one of the drama's production company, popular Korean singers from the label such as Lee Hi, Epik High and AKMU are able to participate in the OST. Other notable names are some members of EXO, Davichi, SNSD Taeyeon, IOI and Baek A Yeon.

The songs really got me the first time. The melodies and lyrics are all so nice that it plays to my head everytime it plays in the background. Although I may say, some songs are wrongfully added in some scenes of the drama, well lets blame the editting team in that sense.

Here are my favorites from Moon Lovers OST:
Part 1. For You (너를 위해) by EXO's Baekhyun, Chen, Xiumin
Part 2. Say Yes by Loco and Punch
Part 3. I Love You, I Remember You (사랑해 기억해) by IOI
Part 4. Forgetting You (그대를 잊는다는 건) by Davichi
Part 5. All With You by Taeyeon
Part 6. Can You Hear My Heart (내 마음 들리나요) by Epik High and Lee Hi
Part 7. A Lot Like Love (사랑인 듯 아닌 듯) by Baek A Yeon

4. The Plot

Being the drama's Chinese version based from an acclaimed romance novel named Bu Bu Jing Xin from writer Tong Hua, Moon Lovers' story really has a lot of potential. Reading the reviews of the novel, it seems really beautiful and emotional. The thing is being a Korean remake the writings and story of the drama has to have the essence of Korean history in its plot.

Like did you know that some names of the characters are actually based from real life Korean historical figures? Examples are King Taejo of Goryeo played by veteran actor Jo Min Ki, also the name Wang So, Lee Junki's character was actually from the actual son of King Taejo, the 4th Prince who became 4th King of Goryeo, Gwangjong.

The drama has a share of melo, romance and action at the same time. Its a good try if you haven't try watching a sageuk drama. I am actually quite thrilled with how the story is progressing.

5. The Eyecandy

Acting aside, honestly, when will we ever see a lot of flower boy prince in a drama? Moon Lovers doesn't stop from Lee Junki and Kang Haneul's visual. There's also Hong Jonghyun, Nam Joohyuk, EXO's BaekhyunJisoo and actor Yoon Sunwoo in the prince line up.

IU's so lucky right? I'll say ignore the negativity and enjoy the eyecandy.

With how the story is progressing, I think theres going to be a lot of conflict and dramatic scenes. I started because I was curious but I stayed because I actually liked it. With these reasons, I hope you try watching Moon Lovers. Who knows? You might become attached to it.
