5 Reasons Why You Need To Stick Watching SBS Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

If you're fond of reading those blogs that translate comments from the point of view of K-netizens you should know by now that a lot are disappointed of IU's acting as a woman who time travelled in the Goryeo dynasty. The Korean ratings of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo are still ranging in single digit number with 11 episodes already done airing.

Well, I might have some cringe reactions for IU as Hae Soo but it doesn't turn me off from watching each episodes of this drama that is based from the popular 2011 Chinese drama also titled Scarlet Heart. I wouldn't lie that I also find some supporting actors lacking in acting department but hey, don't turn your back because there are good points about this drama that might have you stick to it till the end.

Here are the 5 Reasons why you need to be watching Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo:

1. Lee Junki, Lee Joongi

A lot of people were disturbed as to why Lee Junki accepted this project earlier this year. Lee Junki is an established actor with the movie The King and the Clown as his most notable project. Well, the thing is this man rocks sageuk dramas and personally likes action genre, so its really not that surprising if his attracted to Moon Lovers' premise. Without any doubt and despite of Moon Lovers lacking at some point, Lee Junki is the very first reason why you should try watching this drama.

He is so great in portraying the coolness and emotions of the 4th prince Wang So that everytime he is delivering a line you can't help but feel attracted to his character. He definitely is Wang So by fate. I know after watching him in this, you'd probably search for his other works like I did.

2. Kang Haneul

From his experience in musicals, dramas and movies, Kang Haneul does not disappoint whether he plays a cool, nerdy or melodramatic guy. Haneul is so talented and handsome and he really portrays the character of the 8th prince Wang Wook with elegance. With his chiseled jawline and charming smile, I bet you'd fangirl over him in the earlier episodes of Moon Lovers.

3. The OST

You know a drama doesn't really feel complete without its original soundtrack that lingers to your ears. With YG Entertainment as one of the drama's production company, popular Korean singers from the label such as Lee Hi, Epik High and AKMU are able to participate in the OST. Other notable names are some members of EXO, Davichi, SNSD Taeyeon, IOI and Baek A Yeon.

The songs really got me the first time. The melodies and lyrics are all so nice that it plays to my head everytime it plays in the background. Although I may say, some songs are wrongfully added in some scenes of the drama, well lets blame the editting team in that sense.

Here are my favorites from Moon Lovers OST:
Part 1. For You (너를 위해) by EXO's Baekhyun, Chen, Xiumin
Part 2. Say Yes by Loco and Punch
Part 3. I Love You, I Remember You (사랑해 기억해) by IOI
Part 4. Forgetting You (그대를 잊는다는 건) by Davichi
Part 5. All With You by Taeyeon
Part 6. Can You Hear My Heart (내 마음 들리나요) by Epik High and Lee Hi
Part 7. A Lot Like Love (사랑인 듯 아닌 듯) by Baek A Yeon

4. The Plot

Being the drama's Chinese version based from an acclaimed romance novel named Bu Bu Jing Xin from writer Tong Hua, Moon Lovers' story really has a lot of potential. Reading the reviews of the novel, it seems really beautiful and emotional. The thing is being a Korean remake the writings and story of the drama has to have the essence of Korean history in its plot.

Like did you know that some names of the characters are actually based from real life Korean historical figures? Examples are King Taejo of Goryeo played by veteran actor Jo Min Ki, also the name Wang So, Lee Junki's character was actually from the actual son of King Taejo, the 4th Prince who became 4th King of Goryeo, Gwangjong.

The drama has a share of melo, romance and action at the same time. Its a good try if you haven't try watching a sageuk drama. I am actually quite thrilled with how the story is progressing.

5. The Eyecandy

Acting aside, honestly, when will we ever see a lot of flower boy prince in a drama? Moon Lovers doesn't stop from Lee Junki and Kang Haneul's visual. There's also Hong Jonghyun, Nam Joohyuk, EXO's BaekhyunJisoo and actor Yoon Sunwoo in the prince line up.

IU's so lucky right? I'll say ignore the negativity and enjoy the eyecandy.

With how the story is progressing, I think theres going to be a lot of conflict and dramatic scenes. I started because I was curious but I stayed because I actually liked it. With these reasons, I hope you try watching Moon Lovers. Who knows? You might become attached to it.
